After completing the course, the student will have knowledge on the basic coastal and marine applications (coastal works, cables and pipelines, mineral deposits, marine renewables etc) together with the necessary surveys and studies needed for their safe construction. The usage of marine geophysical prospecting in various environmental applications, such as the study of marine biological resources and habitats, is also presented.

  • Search for, analysis and synthesis of data and information, with the use of the necessary technology

  • Working independently

  • Team work

  • Adapting to new situations

  • Decision-making

  • Project management

  • Respect for the natural environment

  • Working in an interdisciplinary environment

The lesson comprises of the following units:

  • Methods of marine geophysical prospecting and sediment sampling

  • Geological and man-made hazards

  • Μarine geological and oceanographical survey planning

  • Seabed surveying for ports, marinas and fishing ports construction

  • Submarine telecommunication and power cables and pipelines (route selection and burial feasibility)

  • Prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits (marine aggregates, Mn nodules, placer and metal deposits (sulfides etc), oil and gas

  • Energy from the sea (marine renewable resources, tides-waves-wind)

  • Design, operation and construction of coastal technical applications

  • Environmental applications – Contribution to studies of biological resources

Face to face

  • Use of ICT in teaching (PPT presentations)
