Research

Her research interests are focusing on the following disciplines:

·         Biogeochemical cycling and dynamics of bioelements in transitional, coastal and open sea environments.

·         Thermodynamics of the CO2-carbonate system and air-sea exchange of CO2

·         Anthropogenic Carbon in the ocean – Οcean Αcidification.

·         Tracing water mass formation, circulation and history using dissolved oxygen.

·         Particulate organic matter dynamics and seawater optical properties

·         Marine Litter (macro- and micro-) at the coastal environment

She was actively involved in many EU and national multidisciplinary research projects focusing on the biogeochemical processes and dynamics in the coastal and open sea environment of the Eastern Mediterranean and their responses to circulation features, climatic and environmental change, while she was the coordinator of the entire team that included scientists from the other oceanographic disciplines in four of them. She has been scientific evaluator in peer review journals, while she has published more than 50 papers in peer review journals and more than 100 in international conferences.

Teaching

Αt the undergraduate level she is teaching the courses of Chemical Oceanography, Marine Geochemistry and Special topics in Marine Chemistry. At the graduate level, she is teaching the course Coastal and Marine Pollution at the M.Sc. program  “Integrated Coastal Zone Management” while she is contributing at the course on Coastal Zone Management.  In addition she is contributing to the syllabus of the course Field methods, data analysis, and models in Marine Sciences” of the M.Sc. program “Research in Marine Sciences”.
