The student acquires knowledge and understanding of aquaculture from the perspective of managing a business. It is sought and rewarded the active participation of students and the development of creative dialogue with the teacher in order the student to obtain in addition to the knowledge of specific terminology used in the field of business management in general and especially in aquaculture units, and a critical thinking and understanding of the operation of such a business, the interdependence and interaction with customers, competitors, suppliers etc.

In addition the aim of this course is to familiarize the student with aquaculture management issues such as marketing on aquaculture, managing authorities for crops of fish, crustaceans, shellfish and aquatic plants, breeding basics the cultivated species and the effects of aquaculture on the environment. Students learn and the applicable national legal framework governing the establishment and operation of aquaculture units.

The compulsory elaboration and presentation of a study also contributes to acquiring and sharpening capacities such as autonomous work and teamwork, acquisition information, critical analysis, evaluation, comparison and synthesis of information, decision-making and management time. The obligatory presentation of the work also contributes to acquiring and sharpening of communicative skills with the written and spoken word.

The course covers basic knowledge of business administration and their application in aquaculture units in national and international level. Also includes topics such as marketing on aquaculture, managing authorities for crops of fish, crustaceans, shellfish and aquatic plants. Emphasis is given to the basic principles of cultivated species and the effects of aquaculture on the environment. Students learn and the applicable national legal framework governing the establishment and operation of aquaculture units.

 Written exam with multiple-choice questions 60% Independent writing assignment with presentation 40%
